Esko to showcase antique snow plow

Sep 02, 2023Sep 02, 2023

The Esko Historical Society (EHS) will host a demonstration of an antique snow plow purchased by Thomson Township 80 years ago at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 at the Esko Historical Museum.

Thomson purchased the Caterpillar D8 tractor in 1939 and used it as a snow plow for nearly 30 years.

In 1968, the plow was replaced by a bulldozer blade and the tractor was used for road work around Thomson Township.

EHS's Ken Nynas said the snow plow was later restored and reattached to the tractor, but it has sat idle for the past 17 years. Nynas said it was last started in 2002 following the restoration when it moved to its present location at the Esko Historical Museum.

The EHS has worked with the Minnesota chapter of the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club to bring the plow back to life for the event.

The event is free and open to the public. The EHS will provide some snacks and refreshments. Hotdogs, bratwurst and hamburgers will be available for purchase from the B&B Lunch Wagon.
